Budget; Jamb Dismisses Reports of Alleged Extravagant Spending

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, has dismissed reports of alleged extravagant spending by the Board in its 2025 budget proposal.

Speaking in Abuja, Oloyede clarified that claims about exorbitant amounts spent on fumigation, meals, and training were grossly misrepresented.

GALAXY TV reports he explained that the total expenditure for fumigation across JAMB offices nationwide in 2024 was less than a million naira, while the proposed allocation for 2025 remains modest.

Similarly, he refuted allegations of extravagant spending on training, noting that funds earmarked for such activities cover essential expenses for over 10,000 examiners and invigilators involved in national examinations.

Regarding the provision of meals for staff, Oloyede stated that JAMB provides lunch at its headquarters to enhance operational efficiency and safeguard sensitive ICT infrastructure.

He emphasized that these measures were necessary to maintain security and prevent disruptions caused by staff movement.

Addressing calls for further reductions in Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) fees, Oloyede defended the current fee of N3,500 as among the lowest globally.

He reaffirmed JAMB’s commitment to transparency, stressing that all funds are accounted for and responsibly utilized.
