REA Unveils N100BN National Public Sector Solarization Initiative

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has unveiled a ₦100 billion National Public Sector Solarization Initiative for 2025, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The project aims to replace diesel-powered generators in public institutions with solar energy systems, reducing governance costs and promoting renewable energy. Speaking at a budget defense session before the House Committee on Power, REA Managing Director Abba Aliyu described the initiative as transformative.

Aliyu highlighted the agency’s 2024 achievements, including deploying solar mini-grids in agricultural regions and providing solar home systems to rural communities. He noted that the 2025 budget, at over ₦500 billion, is the largest in REA’s history and a testament to the administration’s commitment to its Renewed Hope Agenda.

The committee chairman ,Hon Ibrahim Bukar commended the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) for presenting an excellent appropriation proposal for 2025, highlighting its focus on benefiting rural communities. He emphasized that the REA’s mandate to extend electricity to every corner of the country is well-reflected in the proposed budget.
